The adults behind the kids

Julie Miles currently serves as the Program Director of The J.F. Kapnek Charitable Trust which is one of the organizations that CKC supports. She brings her organizational and small business management skills to Creek Kids Care, by procuring supplies for the creation of the stationary, and maintaining all business and accounting records. She secured the incorporated and non-profit status of the organization in 2005. Currently, her long-time passion for Africa is being reignited with CKC’s commitment to the J.F. Kapnek foundation’s efforts for the orphans of Zimbabwe. Julie is also the mother of two girls who participate in nearly all aspects of the organization.

Catherine Freemire, a family therapist and life coach, researches and orders equipment for the kids to purchase for Fresh Start, including tents and sleeping bags. She is the liaison person for shepherding our African preschool project forward and is responsible for ordering supplies for our second product line, the Touchstones. She co-supervises at card assembly parties and also organizes CKC’s special gatherings to make and deliver appetizers and baked goods for Fresh Start’s annual Thanksgiving banquet. Catherine’s two daughters are steadfast contributors to CKC and perfected the fabrication of the Touchstones.

Laura Halpin, stay at home parent and former English and history teacher, initiated the project with her children, then 5 and 7 years, in early 2004. Laura speaks regularly with youth groups and other local organizations to generate interest and participation. Laura is responsible for all CKC communications, manages the creation of the CKC website, administers the Angel Project and also supervises most art and assembly parties. Laura’s daughter and son happily participate in assembly and art parties as well as product sales.
